My Production Workflow

Composing and Recording

My Recent Recording Project

Usually, I start off with an idea, then using my music style to express the idea. I will start off choosing an instrument that fits with the feeling of the idea eg. sad or happy. After that, I will invite instrumentalists to studio to record, telling them how should they play, what to play and what kind of feeling they should express using their instruments.

Mixing & Mastering

After the recording, I will need to stage the mix, edit the tracks, and start mixing, trying my best to make the the mix as balanced as possible. After the mixing, I will start to do the mastering process, applying master compressors, EQ, and a limiter to get the best LUFS value depending on the song and the releasing platform.

What is a producer? That is a hard question because there are many categories of producers. However, in the music industry, I think producers are the people who comes up with an idea and express it through creating music. A producer could compose, sing, record and mix at the same time at any stage in the production of the music, he would tell the instrumentalists what to play and what kind of feeling that the singer should express to the listeners. After the whole production process, the final version of the music should be sent to record labels for releasing.
