Song Structure

During the lesson on Friday, we’ve talked about the structures in a song. This includes intro, verse, pre-chorus/bridge, chorus, post-chorus and outro. These different parts comes together to form a finished song at most of the times.

Intro

An intro in a song structure usually starts in the first second of the song, it could be an instrumental part or it could be a set of lyrics that is different or same to some part of the song.

Verse

Verses are the lyrics that tells the main meaning or story throughout the song, it is usually after the intro and after the chorus. Two of the verses differs each other, usually they do not have the same content but continuing telling the story that is not finished in verse 1.

Hook/Chorus

Hook or chorus in a song is usually repeated more than twice in a song, usually it is the part that most listeners remembers and the part where the ‘unique point’ comes in.

Post-Chorus

Post-Chorus is a part in the song that comes in after the chorus which extends the chorus and acts as the connection or linking between the next verse coming in.

Bridge

Bridge in a song structure usually happens between a verse to chorus, or chorus to outro, it acts as a part that brings down the emotion and slowly builds up which brings in the climax of the song or the ending chorus of the song. Such as the song ‘Pain the Town Red – Doja Cat’

Outro

Outro in a song is the part where the song ends, which is in the last part of the song after the bridge.
