Meaning of the Album
The album’Oil of Every Peral’s Un-Insides was the journey of SOPHIE becoming transgender, it starts with opening up to yourself to the end fully embracing as a trans person. The opening of the album is the track ‘It’s Okay To Cry’ represents the first time finding and accepting SOPHIE’s thoughts and emotions toward herself, her voice in this track is very gentle and soft almost making her sound when she first standing against the traditional masculinity.
Technical Aspect
As SOPHIE is one of the best producers in contemporary music, the album ‘Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides’ has excellent production methods and rich details. It was produced through the DAW Logic with an Elektron Monomachine synthesiser, and SOPHIE created a special coloring and texture which emphasises the theme of the whole album.
In the track ‘Ponyboy’ it has roaring drums which is inpired by the BDSM, it has created a sense of physicality which not a lot producers are capable of.
AFter the first three songs, the album transforms to a more meditative atmosphere, there are more feelings of experimental. The track ‘Is it Cold In the Water’ shows a cold rhythmic synth main lead of a 4/4 pulse wave with no drums, almost leading the listeners to another dimension, and during the chorus by Believe is backed by a grand synth arpeggios, the song gives an ethereal and arctic feeling.
Aesthetic of the Album
‘Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insidies’ is extremely powerful and has SOPHIE’s unique aesthetic especially using her gentle and quiet but very noticable voice.
