It all started in week 1 when we started talking about ‘what is music production?’ and ‘what is a producer?’. I have learned that the different workflows between now and then where in the past producers all had a same work stream but nowdays producers have their own workflow. Some may do the lyrics first, or compose first or mix first, changing the pattern of production work flow.

After that, I have learned the music industry of how a lot of music became less focused on the technical and meaningful perspective but more on the business and earning perspective. Such as Doja Cat, people didn’t really like what she released nowadays such as ‘Paint The Town Red’ which is her newest single but came with controversy that people saying that she’s out again to get money but not making good music.

Also, I have learned the context and aesthetics of different music such as Throbbing Gristle, Muslimgauze and the Music in the DADA period, they are all interesting and includes high value of listening and studying into.

In addition, the most valuable and useful knowledge that I have absorbed in the lesson is critical writing and bibliography, which not just describing and summarising what have I researched but also diving deeply into it and evaluate the information in details therefore to build my own arguments. These skills will show that I have my own thoughts and capable of building more onto the information that I have researched and lead to higher grades.

Using the skills that I have learned in the lesson, I was able to carry out a research of analysis of one of my favorite albums which is ‘UTOPIA’ by Travis Scott, and found out more background about this album. This makes the album more interesting to listen to, and also allows me to learn his production techniques and be able to build on it. Also, it allowed me to make appropriate citations in Harvard style, making my report more academic. In addition, I have made a powerpoint explaining my thoughts on the album based on my analysis and arguments that I have built up which is exciting to present.
